Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.
Author Guidelines
1.Articles either in English or Turkish are accepted. Articles should be submitted online through our website (www.feas.metu.edu.tr/metusd). Submitted articles should be unpublished work and not submitted for publication elsewhere. Acceptance of an article for publication automatically transfers copyright of the article to METU Studies in Development.
2.Manuscripts should be typed double spaced. Titles and subtitles should be short. References should be listed on a separate page. (Not on a seperate document but on a seperate page!). A title page should be submitted seperately as a supplementary file (see here). Title page should contain
3. Include a cover page as a separate file attachment (it should NOT be in the same file that contains your manuscript). To facilitate anonymous reviews, indication of authorship should appear only on this page. This separate cover page must contain the following information:
(i) the title of the manuscript;
(ii) the name of the author(s);
(iii) institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s);
(iv) an abstract of not more than 100 words.
(v) full contact information of all authors (address, phone, e-mail etc...)
3.Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively and titled. Decimals should be separated by a full-stop. Digits should not be separated by commas. Equations should be numbered consecutively. Equation numbers should appear in parentheses at the right margin. In cases where the derivation of formulae has been abridged, the full derivation must be presented on a separate sheet for referee use (not to be published).
4.All references should be cited in the text (not in footnotes) by giving the last name of the author, year of publication, followed by, if necessary, reference to pages. Some examples are: ... It has been argued (Mann, 1979: 76-8) ... Lieberman (1979: 35) states ... Leibenstein (1957a: 18-30; 1957 b:18-20) ... (Musgrave and Musgrave, 1976: 286) ... (Bulutay et al., 1976) ... (Thirlwall, 1973; Singh, 1975: 206) The page numbers for articles in periodicals and edited books must be indicated. References should appear as follows. Books: Brubaker, S. (1967), Trends in the World Aluminium Industry, Baltimore, Maryland: John Hopkins Press. Periodicals : Alexander, W.D. (1976), ";;;;;;The Competition of Materials";;;;;;, Scientific American, 17 (4), 254-62. Collections; Arthur, W.B. (1988), ";;;;;;Competing Technologies: An Overview";;;;;;, in G. Dosi, C. Freeman, R. Nelson, G. Silverberg and L. Soete (eds.), Technical Change and Economic Theory, London: Pinter, 590-607.
5. All submissions should be done through our website.
6. Submissions that do not comply these conditions will be sent back to authors for resubmission.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
Before you submit:
A - Is the subject matter appropriate for METUSD?
Physical Presentation:
A- Is a seperate cover page with Author name(s) and contact information prepared?
B- Are the headings appropriate and do they follow the recommended outline?
Title:
Is the title concise? Does it reflect the proposed research?
Research Aims/Objectives (Introduction):
A - Are the aims/objectives clearly stated? Have they been achieved at the end? B - Have the importance of research and motivation for analysis been demonstrated?
Literature Survey:
A- Is the background to the paper explained?
B- Does the literature review demonstrate an understanding of the topic?
C- Is the literature current, or is there a justification for non-current material.
Methodology:
A - Is there a coherent strategy for data analysis?
B - Have there been data constraints? If so, have they been properly discussed?
C- Given the aims of research is proposed methodology apprpriate. If so, have the short-comings been stated?
References:
A- Is the referencing complete in the paper and at the end? (publisher, place, page number as appropriate)
B- Is referencing consistent in style throughout?
- The text has had the authors' names removed. If an author is cited, ";;;;;;Author";;;;;; and year are used in the bibliography and footnotes, instead of author's name, paper title, etc. The author's name has also been removed from the document's Properties, which in Microsoft Word is found in the File menu.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
